Act 3 scenes 14 - 16

ACT III

[curtain opens once more on the dream sequence and Dimitri is talking to his child self again, “what do you do when your crutch breaks” by Dustin Poe begins to play]

Dimitri:     Run away child

                   Don’t let yourself drown

                   Or you’ll be stuck in this town

                   And feeling let down

                   But you’ve got a new set of problems now

                   When you cant escape the spiral

                   Cause everything before has let you down

                   How much further , can you descend

                   Before your feet finally touch the ground

[god appears to Dimitri once again]

God: Dimitri, you will be judged for this

Dimitri: what more can you do to me that hasn’t been done to me already

God: you know nothing of hell, I still hope you will let me in, your not completely dead inside, there is still hope for you if you repent now

Dimitri: I cant repent, if im not sorry for what ive done, and nothing can take away the justification I feel for what ive done and what im about to do

God: you mustn’t be so eager to turn away from your destiny

Dimitri: this is my destiny , if there is a destiny for me at all

God: if you wont listen to me now, ten there is truly no more hope for you at all

Dimitri: don’t worry, I am unafraid, of what lies ahead of me, I promised Derek that they would pay, and I waited for you to make that true, and now im taking the matter into my own hands

[music ends and the dream ends, the curtain closes, and reopens on Sarah going to the sheriffs office]

Sarah: Sheriff Watts

Sheriff: yes

Sarah: I need your help

Sheriff: office hours are six am to nine pm

Sarah: sheriff you don’t understand

Sheriff: come back in the morning

Sarah: your son may be in danger

Sheriff: josh?, get inside here

Sarah: sheriff we need to find Dimitri, I think hes going to kill, hes gone mad I think

Sheriff: what do you mean gone mad and what does this have to do with my boy

Sarah: Josh and his friends did kill Derek, Dimitri caught their confessing on an audio file, but the judge wouldn’t admit it into evidence, I think Dimitri will go after him first , but I don t know you need to find your son, as well as the others

Sheriff: well one of them died the other night

Sarah: what

Sheriff: he got plastered drunk and got his head stuck in the toilet and drowned

Sarah: its begun then

Sheriff: what do you mean

Sarah: I don’t think it was an accident

[ the scene changes again to the judge leaving the office and Dimitri stalking him, the song “XO” by Fall out boy begins to play]

Dimitri:     I comb the crowd

                   And pick you out

                   My mouth moves to fast

                   For you to figure it out

                   It starts eyes closed

                   To fingers crossed

[music stops, and he leaps out at the judge and slams him up against a door then disappears in the mist of the night]

Dimitri: oh judge

Judge: what do you want from me goddamn it

Dimitri: I want justice

Judge: ill give you justice you son of a bitch

[he pulls a pistol from his jacket pocket and points it blindly in the mist he backs near a bush and Dimitri jumps out and grabs the judge grabs his arm and forces the gun to the judges temple]

Dimitri: any last words your honor

Judge: you go straight to hell,

Dimitri: ill see you there

[he pulls the trigger and blood spatters all over Dimitri’s face]

Scene 15

[the scene changes to Dimitri alone onstage as Sarah and the sheriff are offstage looking and they sing the show must go on, during which the chorus will also sing]

Dimitri:     Empty spaces

                   What are we living for

                   Abandoned places

                   I guess we know the score

                   On and on,

                   Does anybody know what we are looking for

Sarah:       Another hero

                   Another mindless crime

Dimitri:     Hold the line

[music ends as Dimitri catches up with Jesse in the yard he throws rocks at the door until Jesse comes out then hides behind a tree and throws something to lure him into a bear trap, Jesse falls into the bear trap and screams Dimitri comes from behind the tree with a large tree branch]

Dimitri: well well Jesse looks like we caught vermon in the bear trap

Jesse: ill kill you for this

Dimitri: that’s where your wrong

Jesse: your gonna pay for this

Dimitri: ive payed enough, now its your turn to be held accountable for your sins, why did you kill him, was it because he was weaker than you, was it because you thought no one would care, was it because it made you feel better

Jesse: we didn’t think anyone would miss him, and we knew that faggot couldn’t fight back

Dimitri: let me tell you a secret about us , we can fight, and im going to show you how weak you really are,

[he pulls out his hack saw]

Dimitri: now where should we operate first

Jesse: no no

Dimitri: yes yes

[suddenly the door begins to jiggle as Jeremy begins to turn the Knob]

Dimitri: oh shhhh, hold on a minute this will only take a second

[ he disappears in the mist once more and Jeremy opens the door]

Jesse: help me Jeremy , help me, im stuck in a bear trap

[Jeremy walks toward Jesse to help him when Dimitri sneaks up from behind and Strikes him with the stick he then takes Jeremy and ties him up to the tree with barbed wire and pours gasoline on the both of them]

Dimitri: wake up sleepy head , I want you to see this

Jeremy: what did you do to me queer, and why cant I move my legs

Dimitri: you know there is a nerve cell in the spinal column that if you injure it by simply striking the base of the neck , it paralizes the body from that point down

Jeremy: hey hey what are your doing, AHHHHHH

[Dimitri sticks a nail in his thigh]

Dimitri: but luckily, you can still feel

[Dimitri then goes to Jesse and Stakes down his hands and grabs a lighter]

Jeremy: wait wait, don’t do this

Jesse: don’t kill us, that makes you no better

Dimitri: its too late for that now, it must be finished

[Dimitri lights the lighter, and drops it, red wash and loud blast as the stage blacks]

Scene 16

[ the lights come up once more at Josh’s house, he answers the phone as it begins ringing]

Josh: hello

Sheriff: josh listen to me son

Josh: dad

Sheriff: I know about the murder josh

Josh: dad, what are you talking about

Sheriff: just listen you aren’t safe I need you to go to the school

Josh: why the school, why not the police station

Sheriff: just go to the school and lock yourself in I will explain when I get there

[the phone goes dead and josh leaves the house the stage blacks out briefly and set changes to the interior of a squad car]

Sheriff: where do you think he could be

Sarah: I don’t know but I do know he will go after the people involved, one after one and the one he feels is most responsible will be last

Sheriff: which would mean

Sarah: your son would be the last and the bloodiest

Sheriff: oh god

[the phone rings, and the audio from the scene before plays when Sarah answers the phone, Dimitri then cuts the audio, and speaks into the phone to Sarah]

Dimitri: If you want to know where all this is gonna end , go back to where it all began

Sarah: Dimitri, wait we need to talk about this, you cant do this Dimitri, whatever your about to do stop you don’t have to do it

Dimitri: yes I do, it’s the only way this can possibly end, im sorry, but I had to let you know, because you’re the only one that will care that im gone now that Derek is dead, and I wanted to talk to you one last time, don’t bother coming to find us because by the time you get here this place will be our tomb theres enough cyanide to wipe out a town and its rigged to blow

[the phone goes dead and the scenery changes to the school, and the song bullet with “butterfly wings” by Smashing Pumpkins begins to play as Dimitri waits to kill josh]

[music ends and Josh walks into the school hallway, Dimitri hides in a locker and when he gets down the hallway he jumps out and tackles josh and ties his hands behind his back, and holds a knife to his neck as the sheriff and Sarah pull up]

Sarah: Dimitri, don’t

Dimitri: No sarah, it has to be done, hes the last,

Sarah: Dimitri, you can still be forgiven

Dimitri: its too late for that

Josh: im sorry, im sorry, we shoudnt have done what we did, we were wrong, we acted out of hate and ignorance, and we should have gone to jail for it,

Dimitri: well now your gonna burn in hell for it

Josh: im sorry

Dimitri: its too late to apologize

[ the sheriff pulls his weapon put and enters the hallway and shows a look of horror as he sees his boy with a knife at his throat]

Dimitri: hello sheriff we were waiting for you, its time for the big finale, your son, the murderer of the innocent gets whats coming to him

Sheriff: don’t do anything foolish son, he will be punished

Dimitri: what by you, he gets away with murder, how can you justify that, he killed Derek because he was gay, he got away with it, because Noone cared that Derek died, except me, no one cared but me, no one cared that the football star, the sheriffs son was a killer, no one cared but me, this is where the path of hatred has brought us and this is how it must end

Sheriff: screw you, you son of a bitch

[the sheriff shoots Dimitri who pulls the knife across joshs throat as he falls down and dies slowly, and Sarah sings “apologize” by one republic]

Sarah:       im holding on your rope got me ten feet off the ground

                   Ooh im hearing what you say but I just cant make a sound

                   You tell me that you need me then you go and cut me down

                   But wait, you tell me that your sorry didn’t think I’d turn

          [ music stops and everyone leaves the stage during which time there will be a dummy or a stand in to take the place of Dimitri’s body while he emerges from stage right and looks down upon his body, and sings “ comfortably numb” by Pink Floyd]

Dimitri:     hello is there anybody in there

                   Just nod if you can hear me

                   Is there anyone at home

                   Come on now

                   I can ease your pain

                   Get you on your feet again

                   Relax ill need some information first

[ Derek comes onstage and they are reunited they kiss  and lightning flashes and Derek disappears once again a single focus beam shines on Dimitri from above in addition to the spotlight the chorus reappears and he begins to sing sleep again]

Dimitri:     Some say now suffer all the children

                   Or a madman and polluted from gutter institutions

                   Cause there aint no way that im sorry for what ive did

Dimitri:     well I was there on the day

                   They sold the cards for the queen

                   We watched our lives on the screen

                   I hate the ending myself but it started with an allright scene

                  

It was the roar of the crowd

                   It was a lie when they smiled
